It’s that time once again, after the massive success of our Photo Fun Week 2016 with the Underwater Tribe, Underwater Lightroom, and the team at NAD Lembeh Resort, we are excited to announce an all new 2017 event! We have scheduled this event from Saturday 29 July – Saturday 5 August 2017, which is during the best season for critters in the Lembeh Strait.
We will be limiting the number of divers who will be able to attend this workshop in order to maximize everyone’s personal time with the instructors both underwater and in the resort. One of the highlights of our workshops is that the instructors don’t bring their cameras with them underwater, instead we spend time one on one with each participant helping them to compose their photos, aim their strobes, hold a snoot, and anything and everything else that helps them make the most of their time underwater.
Our Fun Photo Weeks are geared toward anyone and everyone with a camera who wants to improve their skills in the water. Although we always start with the basics such as shutter speeds, f-stops and basic strobe positioning; we soon move on to more advanced topics such as: Achieving Black or Blue Water Macro Backgrounds, Advanced Strobe Positioning, Shooting Wide in Lembeh (CFWA), Super Macro, Snooting and others. Of course with post processing guru Doug Sloss in attendance, we will also be delving into Lightroom for image organization and editing so that everyone can get the utmost from their photographs.
The official Photo Fun Week begins on the 29th, the afternoon will see many attendees arrive and is the perfect time to set up cameras and dive gear. After dinner, the group will get together for an introduction of the instructors, the guests, and an explanation of how the week will progress. The basic daily schedule will include 2 boat dives in the morning with a return to the resort for lunch. Following lunch, there will be a short presentation and then a third boat dive in the afternoon. At 5pm each evening there will be Lightroom presentations as well as “one on one” time with the instructors to ask questions and critique the days photos. Following dinner each night there will be another presentation before social time and well deserved sleep! As a special addition to the workshop, NAD will offer Black Water Night Dives (not included in the price) throughout the week for participants who are interested in photographing weird and wonderful pelagic creatures. There will be 3 day dives per day each day except for the 4th when we will only do 2 dives followed by an evening presentation of everyone’s best photos of the week.
About the Instructors
As with any form of class or workshop, choosing the right instructors for an underwater photography workshop is very important! The key is having mentors/instructors who will work with you in a “hands on” manner both in the classroom as well as underwater. The hallmark of an Underwater Tribe Photo Fun Week is that none of the instructors are there to take photos underwater, they are there to help you improve your photographs! Therefore, instead of carrying a camera all of the Underwater Tribe mentors carry slates underwater and help the students on every dive with shot selection, strobe positioning, settings, and also help guide them into interesting new ideas for shooting subjects in a different way.

Special Opportunity for our Participants
In conjunction with our friends from Fisheye Japan, we will have a selection of FIX Neo underwater video and photo lights with us during the workshop. Guests will be able to use these small, yet powerful, lights throughout the week at no extra charge. These lights are great for aiding auto focus but are also fantastic for Constant Light photography. With access to these lights we will be presenting a talk that discusses the pros and cons of Constant Light photography as well. As an added attraction, everyone will have the chance to purchase these great lights directly on site during the workshop.
