The Underwater Tribe Highlights 2016

We would like to take this opportunity to greet everyone a Happy New Year and wish everyone a remarkable 2017.  As is our tradition at this time of year, we present our “Highlights 2016” post to remember some of our favourite moments from the past year.  Typically we have always presented a “10 Favourite Images” post, but this year we have something more in mind.  Although we are obviously showing some of our favourite photos, we are also including some video clips and achievements as well.

In no particular order, here are some of our favourite memories and highlights 2016, the year that was:

Hitting over 100,000 views for several video shorts shared on our Facebook Page – Our short videos proved to be a popular choice on our Facebook page in 2016, with at least two of these shorts garnering over 150,000 unique views.  Here is the most popular video from our FB page

The Launch of an All New Website – If you are reading this post, then you know we launched a brand new website in 2016.  We are very happy with the all new interactive design of our new site which boasts many new features over the previous design.  If you have not yet had the chance to explore the new site feel free to click on the photo galleries, video galleries, and tutorials section to see what we now offer in this “all in one” location.

Featured Photographers in Several Media Outlets – Both Mike and Luca were featured as the “Photographer of the Week” in Dive Photo Guide as well as on Underwater360.

Aerial Imagery from Indonesia – 2016 saw us visiting many area of Indonesia and of course we brought our DJI Phantom Drone with us as often as we could.  Here is a short video of some of the best imagery we captured in 2016

Starting 2016 Out Right in Raja Ampat – January 2016 started out the right way with one of the most incredible underwater encounters of the year, snorkeling with more than 20 manta rays in Raja Ampat.  For some reason, many divers turn their noses up at the idea of snorkeling, but when a couple of dozen mantas are feeding at the surface, snorkeling is the best way to interact with them!

Interacting with a Bryde’s Whale Mother and Calf – Although already covered in the Aerial compilation post above, this encounter with a Bryde’s Whale mother and calf in Raja Ampat is one of the best encounters we had in 2016

Working with Sony Singapore – 2016 brought us into association with Sony South East Asia which is based in Singapore.  We created our first couple of videos for them back in March with the YouTube version receiving over 1.5 million views so far.  We are continuing our relationship with Sony in 2017, keep your eyes on this site for more Sony productions soon.

Successful Photo Workshops 2016 – 2016 saw us host several photo workshops in Indonesia with on location “Photo Fun Weeks” in both Ambon and the Lembeh Strait.  Our NAD Lembeh Photo Workshop was our most successful yet, in fact it proved so popular that we brought in PhotoShop and Lightroom Guru Doug Sloss as part of the professional teaching team.  In fact, this formula proved so popular that we are repeating it in 2017, please see our NAD Lembeh Photo Fun Week 2017 page for more information.
