We are excited to be heading back to Raja Ampat 15 – 26 March 2021. Our host for this extraordinary adventure is the luxurious Samambaia Liveaboard. We are announcing this trip early due to high demand on Raja Ampat itineraries. For divers who want to experience Raja Ampat at it’s best, this is the trip for you. A true Raja Ampat itinerary that starts and ends in Sorong. This itinerary provides a full 10 days of diving in the Raja Ampat area. We will work with the Samambaia crew to ensure that we visit the best sites at the best times.
The diving in Raja Ampat is truly world class. This marine protected area is home to one of the most diverse eco systems on the planet. With three distinct areas to discover, the diving here is a varied experience. The Misool region in the south has an amazing variety of colourful soft corals, big schools of fish, and a large population of manta rays. The Dampier Strait boasts many of the famous dive sites in the area such as Cape Kri and Blue Magic. The northern area consists of beautiful areas like Eagle Rock and Kawe. These remote northern sites are less frequented by other boats and offer incredible pelagic encounters.
As conditions can change, we will plan each day accordingly. March is typically one of the best times of year to visit Raja Ampat with clear skies and calm seas. The list of encounters we have had during this time of year is off the charts. Pelagic and reef manta rays, big schools of jacks, never ending pygmy seahorses, rivers of fusiliers, and brightly coloured schools of sweetlips. This area truly is one of the gems of diving in the Indo Pacific region. There is always something to satiate every diver from critter lovers to underwater photographers.
The Samambaia is one of the newest boats in the region and is fitted with all the features of a modern dive liveaboard. With a powerful marine engine, which can reach up to 10 knots cruising speed, it’s the best way to explore the Banda Sea. During the design process the focus was on the details which make it such a great boat. Functionality is paired with aesthetics and quality materials. The layout of the ship was built around the needs of the guests. Comfort and service are of highest priority on board, while the atmosphere is relaxed and cozy. The boat offers many areas for both social activity and private time. A large sundeck is available which has a removable shade cover when the sun gets too hot.
The food on the boat is fantastic with a variety of western and Indonesian dishes. Fresh coffee is always avaialable from a top notch espresso machine. Soft drinks and water are available in the salon 24 hours per day. Beer is also available once diving is done, wine and cocktails are available but not included.
For those who never get enough time in this area, we are pleased to announce back to back trips. We have also secured the sailing directly after this trip to explore even more of the Bird’s Head Peninsula.
