Banda Sea Coral Reef – Photo of the Day

The Banda Sea in eastern Indonesia is a very deep body of water with a handful of volcanic islands.  The human population in the area is quite small which means there is not a lot of pressure from fishing.  The area is often called “The Forgotten Islands” as this string of lonely outposts are only reachable by boat.  The islands in the area are ringed by stunning coral reefs and sharp, vertical walls.  These shallow reefs are fantastic photo opportunities with healthy hard coral in shallow blue water.  Although not technically difficult, coral reef photos are always pleasant to look at as they show healthy marine life in a positive fashion.
