Ambon Maluku Divers 2018Travel with the Tribe to Ambon!

It’s that time of year again, we are happy to announce a Photo Fun Week in one of Indonesia’s best destinations, Ambon!  This is the fourth time we have visited Maluku Divers in Ambon and every time we go we have an extraordinary time.  We have timed our trip in 2018 to coincide with the best moon cycle to avoid currents and have the best conditions.  Ambon Bay offers incredible macro photography opportunities with a variety of different creatures such as rhinopias, blue ring octopus, coleman shrimp, zebra crabs, mimics, and of course the iconic Psychedelic Frogfish.

Ambon Fun Week 27 March – 2 April 2018

Ambon Maluku Divers FrogfishOur Maluku Divers trip will run from the 27th of March to the 2nd of April.  This includes arrival on the 27th and departure on the 2nd of April for a total of 6 nights and 14 dives.  The 27th will be the arrival day with an introduction by Maluku Divers and the Underwater Tribe about what to expect throughout the week.  Starting on the 28th to the 31st there will be 3 dives per day and 2 dives on the 1st of April.  For those interested in extending their trip in Ambon, there is the opportunity to extend to the 6th of April or even arrive early.

This trip is not being run as a dedicated photography workshop, however, we will of course be doing photo related presentations to help everyone learn new tips and tricks to improve their underwater photography skills.  This trip is more about having a great time with like minded divers who enjoy diving with each other while having the chance to learn from everyone while at the resort.  Therefore, as always, this trip is open to both photographers and non photographers alike.

What Kind of Diving to Expect?

Ambon Maluku Divers Psychedelic FrogfishMaluku Divers Resort is located in the heart of Ambon Bay, home of some of Indonesia’s finest macro diving.  The main sites are all within 5 – 10 minute boat rides from the resort and we often return to the resort between dives one and two.  The vast majority of the sites that we will visit are macro sites with either a rocky or sandy bottom.  The style of diving is slow and easy, concentrating on small areas looking for the cool critters that Ambon is famous for.  The experienced guiding team from Maluku Divers know the sites better than anyone and will always take us to where the action is hottest.  There are a couple of sites that offer wide angle opportunities or close focus wide angle opportunities and these include three different jetties which are home to a variety of schooling fish.  Close focus wide angle is also an option as larger inhabitants of the bay include giant frogfish, rhinopias, and a variety of long arm octopus; if we are lucky we may even spot the famed Psychedelic Frogfish.  No dives are planned for outside of the bay at this time.
