Sony Alpha 6500 APS-C Camera

Sony Alpha 6500 Mirrorless Camera Announced

Exciting news for Sony enthusiasts who prefer a crop sized sensor (APS-C) over a full frame.  Sony’s all new mirrorless camera, the 24.2 MP Sony Alpha 6500, is a very powerful machine that comes in a perfect size for photographers who don’t want to be saddled down by oversized equipment.

From the Sony website:

“Meet the α6500 — the APS-C interchangeable lens compact camera that puts the power to shoot professional-looking stills and movies solidly in your hands. An enhanced buffer for continuous shooting of up to 307 shots2, in-camera 5-axis optical image stabilisation, touchscreen control, super-speed AF and High-density Tracking AF Technology extend the range of your shooting capabilities.”

One of the great selling points for underwater photographers, especially macro photographers, is the 425 point auto-focus system.  Macro photographers are very selective on where they want to focus their shots, having a choice of 425 points will really help when trying to capture the perfect composition with the eye in focus.

Another addition to this camera is the 5 axis stabilisation feature, which will help with reducing camera shake.  Again, this is a great feature for macro photographers who try to shoot with a limited depth of field.  This is also a great feature for video.

Speaking of video, the camera offers full 4K video with S-Log and S- Gamut picture profile options for large dynamic range flexibility in post processing.  The video capabilities of this camera also offer recording up to 120 fps.
